i got my new passport today. why am i incapable of taking a photogenic passport photo?!?! i guess my IC is too normal looking so to balance it out my passport’s photo is fugs.

the following conversation happened - 

me: check out my new passport

dad: pffftthurrrshfft so ugly

mom: if you cover your eyes you look exactly like your dad!

dad: …

me: cos the uglay is in the genes

mom: nah it’s only your dad

dad: …………..

when will parents ever learn that insulting the looks of their offspring inadvertently results in insulting themselves?

hi i just watched the latest episode of game of thrones and it was so… epic (we need a more epic word)

when i just started watching i was like…

during the build up towards the battle of blackwater i was like…

and then when the arrow on fire flew through the air 

i was like

and when it landed and the dragonfire exploded

at that last part at the end when you thought it was gonna end but NOPE twist in the story

anyway on sunday i rewatched perfect blue cos pam watched it for the first time and i decided to rewatch it. it was so much more disturbing than the first time i watched it. guess i was sleeping through it the first time through lol. definitely a mindfuck that places itself somewhere between inception and the human centipede (don’t google it if you don’t know what it is. i read the wiki description and i got nightmares) 

i guess when filmmakers mix in a bit of stylized violence with gorgeous visuals (think kill bill, vampire hunter d, animatrix etc.) it still feels safe and borders on what we perceive as cool (though still slightly morbid) because the audience feels like a spectator. with perfect blue though, satoshi kon adds elements of psychosis and madness to a very realistic portrayal of a person’s mundane existence, making perfect blue scarily easy to relate to. somehow, it gets under your skin. it’s similar to watching natalie portman’s character deteriorate in black swan. uncomfortable and makes you wanna turn away. this time i sat through the whole movie instead of fast-forwarding through all the scenes that made me squirm and boy was it disturbing.

edit: okay apparently darren aronofsky aka the director of black swan was heavily influenced by satoshi kon’s films. he even bought the american rights to perfect blue so he could use one of its scenes in requiem for a dream.
